Bobby Conner: An Audience With Our King - Ready to Pray?
by Bobby Conner
Sep 20, 2013

Get Ready To Pray! True Prayers Will Shake The Earth!
Genuine prayer is not a religious drudgery or dry, meaningless duty, but a wonderful delight. True prayer is actually an audience with the KING! Any one of us can and should come before the royal throne of Heaven with our request. We can come with full assurance that our prayers will be heard and responded to by Almighty God (see 1 John 5:14). Pray in faith knowing you will get what you are asking.
This promise is given by Christ Himself in Mark 11:23-25 "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them..."
Recently, the Spirit of God said to me, "I have good news for you to share with God's people!" At this divine proclamation, my spirit leapt with holy expectation. I was even more encouraged by the words God then declared: "I am preparing to answer Paul's prayer recorded in Colossians!"
Good News: Invigorating Power!
Study this outstanding prayer in Colossians 1:6-12 (Amplified Bible):
"...which has come to you. Indeed, in the whole world [that Gospel] is bearing fruit and still is growing [by its own inherent power], even as it has done among yourselves ever since the day you first heard and came to know and understand the grace of God in truth. [You came to know the grace or undeserved favor of God in reality, deeply and clearly and thoroughly, becoming accurately and intimately acquainted with it.]
"You so learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ in our stead and as our representative and yours.
"Also he has informed us of your love in the [Holy] Spirit.
"For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things – that you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].
"[We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy, giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the portion which is the inheritance of the saints (God's holy people) in the Light."
Beloved, this prayer is going to be fulfilled – soon and very soon – but we must join with Paul and pray fervently, contending for these promises to be fulfilled in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. We must pray like never before!
Prayer Agenda: Nine Promises for Nine Breakthroughs
What exactly is going to happen when we pray? Here are the nine promises of this most amazing prayer of Colossians 1. We will:
1. Be filled with the deep and clear knowledge of God's will
2. Have all spiritual wisdom concerning the ways and purposes of God
3. Understand and discern spiritual things
4. Walk and live in a manner pleasing to the Lord
5. Bear fruit in every good work
6. Steadily grow and increase in the knowledge of God
7. Be invigorated and strengthened with all power
8. Exercise endurance and patience with joy
9. Give thanks to the Father, having been qualified for our inheritance.

Let us ask, seek, knock, and keep on asking, seeking, and knocking for every one of these prayers to be fulfilled. Let us press on in prayer, praying through to be filled with His Spirit, given all wisdom and discernment, empowered to walk and bear fruit to please the Lord, to grow and increase, to exercise endurance and patience, and to be invigorated and strengthened with all power.
Why do we need this invigorating power? So we may advance God's Kingdom into every aspect of society and every corner of the earth!
Prayer Strategy: Believe And Stand Strong!
It is imperative, beloved, that we not only pray but also take a strong stand as we pray. This stand takes place on the battlefield of the mind. We must make up our minds, make a quality decision, and draw a line in the sand, declaring, as Martin Luther declared, "Here I stand!"
In other words, we must decide not to continue to stumble about in the confusion that seems to gridlock Believers as well as unbelievers in this culture. Rather, we must walk with God-given goals, God-given aims and God-given divine purpose – not our own goals and aims. We are not to be vague, thoughtless, confused, or distracted during these end-time days; on the contrary, we can and must discover the Lord's certain guidance every moment of the day, every day of the week.
In Ephesians 5:15-17 (Amplified Bible), Paul offers us a most severe warning:
"Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is."
When we take heed, rebuke the enemies of confusion, doubt and self-reliance, and take hold of God's promises by faith, praying earnestly as Paul prayed in Colossians 1, we can rest assured that God's continual guidance and provision are certain truths in our lives: We will be invigorated and strengthened.
Prayer's Enemy: The Carnal Mind
We may be book-smart, business-savvy, culturally-sophisticated, well-heeled, well-traveled or well-versed, but our carnal reasoning and natural understanding are simply not good enough. In fact, "the mind of the flesh...is death." Romans 8:6-8 (Amplified Bibles) states:
"Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].
"[That is] because the mind of the flesh [with its carnal thoughts and purposes] is hostile to God, for it does not submit itself to God's Law; indeed it cannot.
"So then those who are living the life of the flesh [catering to the appetites and impulses of their carnal nature] cannot please or satisfy God, or be acceptable to Him."
As we pray, believe, and stand strong, we must determine in our hearts to cast off every weight and pull down every high thing, every thought and imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (see 2 Corinthians 10:5) and choose to follow the ways of God, no matter what, no matter the cost. God promises us that, as we pray, believe, and take our strong stand, we will be invigorated and strengthened and receive our breakthrough
Prayer's Result: Christ Our Wisdom
In Nehemiah 9:20, the Lord promises:
"You also gave Your good spirit to instruct them, and withheld not Your manna from them, and gave water for their thirst" (AMP).
In Psalm 32:8, the Lord again makes this promise of guidance: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye."
The Holy Spirit, the revealer of genuine truth, the upright Guide, will give clear direction as we seek Him and wait upon His guidance. Consider John 16:13:
"But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]" (AMP).
This last phrase is extremely significant for today: "...and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]." The entire world seems to be seeking this revelation, asking, "What does the future hold?" As followers of Christ the King, we have the answer, and that is the overcoming victory in and through our blessed Lord Jesus Christ (see Romans 8:37).
Christ Himself, living within us, is the wisdom that God is offering to us (see James 1:5). God will direct us as we yield and follow, refusing to lean on our own human understanding but standing on His Word instead (see Psalm 119:130). Dear Believer, pray, pray some more, and stand strong – and you will see breakthrough and be invigorated and strengthened to bring in the harvest!
You have an audience with THE KING!
Amen!

Haftarah
Ezekiel 38:18-39:16
It is significant that theHaftarah readings for both the first day of Sukkot and for the following Sabbath include calamitous occurrences of the last days when nations will unite to come against Israel. In the holy, divine judgments released at that time, the LORD ".will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. Then the nations shall know that I am YHVH, the Holy One inIsrael (Ezekiel 39:7; Emphasis ours). Israel will come to know the holy name of her God in her midst (Yeshua- a name which historically most of Israel has refused to know, means "Yehovah Saves")-and nations will be required to acknowledge that this Holy One still chooses to identify Himself with and in the land and people of Israel. The Zechariah passage teaches that this acknowledgment will be exemplified by the nations coming annually to Jerusalem to participate in the Feast of Sukkot(Zechariah 14:16-19).

Sukkot

סכות
The last in our list of G-d's appointed festivals isSukkot. In English it is called "The Feast of Tabernacles" or "The Feast of Booths". This particular moed occurs on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, four days after Yom Kippur/ The Day of Atonement.  The picture this moed gives us is that of Messiah returning to dwell [tabernacle] among His people for a thousand years.  This "return of the King" is something for which believers have been yearning for almost two thousand years.
What does Scripture tell us about this festival and what commandments are given regarding it? What are we to do and when are we to do it? We will also note the millennia-old traditions associated with this moed and see how those traditions can enhance our celebration of and understanding of it. While some find it appropriate to dismiss traditional observances as mere "traditions of men" we should be like the Bereans and consider what Scripture says about tradition and "test everything" and hold fast to that which is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21 KJV).
As we begin our study of this special appointment with G-d we pray once more in the words of King David: oh, Lord, please "open our eyes that we might behold wonderful things from your Torah" and see our returning Messiah in this moed. Scripture was given to mankind to speak of Him and we should listen and hear its voice... His voice... especially during His appointed times.

What Scripture Says About Sukkot

Sukkot (סכותStrong's #5521) is a plural Hebrew word that means "booths"1 or "tabernacle"2.  Sukkot is also sometimes transliterated into English as Sukkoth.  The singular version of the word is sukkah.
The very first use of this Hebrew word is found in the story of the patriarch,Ya'akov.  Shortly after he encounters his brother, Esav, Scripture tells us this:

Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built for himself a house and made booths for his livestock; therefore the place is named Succoth.

The "booths" [temporary shelters] described in this passage are in Hebrew called "sukkot".
The last use of this word in Scripture is found in the writings of the prophet Zechariah.  In this passage, Zechariah is describing the world after Messiah's return:

Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths.  And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, there will be no rain on them.  If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.  This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

If any nation does not go up to worship the King and celebrate the "Feast of Booths" (i.e.Sukkot) then that nation will not receive rain in the next year.
We see the perpetual nature of G-d's moedim exemplifed in this passage.

Particulars of the moed

Who:
The sons of Israel (Levitcus 23:34)... specifically the "native-born in Israel" (Leviticus 23:42).

  • You shall do "no laborious work" [Heb: כל-מלאכת עבדה, לא תעשו (kal melakhat avodah lo taasu) literally: "all servile work not shall you do"] on the first day or the eighth day (Leviticus 23:35-36).
  • You shall live in sukkot [booths] for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall live in booths (Leviticus 23:42).
  • All the generations of Israel should know that G-d had the sons of Israel live in booths when He brought them out of the Land of Egypt (Leviticus 23:43).

Offerings
Once again, the book of Numbers provides the list of offerings required for this moed.

Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work, and you shall observe a feast to the LORD for seven days.  You shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to the LORD: thirteen bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old, which are without defect; and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths for each of the two rams, and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs; and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering.

  • The olah [burnt offering] for the first day of Sukkot:
    • Thirteen bulls (+ 3/10 ephah fine flour mixed with oil + 1/2 hin of wine for each bull)
    • Two rams (+ 2/10 ephah fine flour mixed with oil + 1/3 hin of wine for each each)
    • Fourteen male lambs one year old without defect (+ 1/10 fine flour mixed with oil + 1/4 hin of wine for each lamb)
  • One male goat for a sin offering
  • The continual olah (Numbers 28:3-8):
    • Two male lambs one year old without defect, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (+1/10 ephah fine flour mixed with 1/4 hin of oil + 1/4 hin of "strong drink" for each lamb)

The rest of the chapter is almost entirely dedicated to describing the offerings associated with the remaining days of the moed:

When:
In the seventh month on the fifteenth day of the month for seven days (Leviticus 23:34).
When you have gathered in the crops of the land (Leviticus 23:39).

It is a perpetual statute throughout your generations (Leviticus 23:41).

Where:
"In the place which the LORD chooses" (Deuteronomy 16:15).  This phrase appears to be a shortened version of "in the place which the Lord chooses to establish His Name" (Deuteronomy 12:2114:23-2416:2, etc).
Nehemiah the prophet relates G-d's words regarding this place:

'If you are unfaithful I will scatter you among the peoples; but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.'

This place where G-d has chosen to place His Name is Yerushalayim, specifically, Mt. Zion: the Temple Mount.

Other Observations

  • Those who do not otherwise live in sukkot should build their sukkah between the Yom Kippurand the day before Sukkot so it is ready at twilight to enter into the moed.
  • The days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot are the days when Solomon consecrated the altar in the first Temple (see 1 Kings 8).

Arba Minim- The Four Species
THE FOUR SPECIES OF SUKKOT - © Arim44 | Dreamstime.comOne of the unique commandments of the moed is found inLeviticus 23:40-

On the first day you shall take the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches, and boughs of the leafy trees and willows of the brooke and rejoice before the LORD your G-d for seven days.

There are "four species" of plant life contained in this passage:
  1. The foliage [literally fruit] of beautiful trees
  2. Palm branches
  3. Boughs of leafy trees
  4. Boughs of brook willows

We are commanded to take these and rejoice before the LORD for seven days (Leviticus 23:40).

Native-Born
Leviticus 23:42 appears to narrow the commandment of Sukkot to the "native-born" in the Land of Israel:

'You shall live in booths for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall live in booths, so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'"

In a very literal sense today, unless one is "native-born" in the Land this commandment is not binding upon them.
The Hebrew word translated as "native-born" is אזרח (etzrach  - Strong's #249).  This word is used 16 times in the Tanakh to describe people-groups:

Each of these instances appears to make a distinction between the "native-born" of the Land and the "foreigner" (ger) who dwells with Israel.  This distinction is used to stress the application of a commandment regardless of one's presence in one group or the other.  For example, no leaven shall be found in the houses of either the native-born [etzrach] or the alien [ger].  It is as if G-d were saying "I don't care you who are... no leaven in your homes during this week."
The prophet Ezekiel provides a glimpse of the world to come and the status of foreigners in the Land of Israel:

"So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. You shall divide it by lot for an inheritance among yourselves and among the aliens [ger] who stay in your midst, who bring forth sons in your midst. And they shall be to you as the native-born [etzrach] among the sons of Israel; they shall be allotted an inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. And in the tribe with which the alien stays, there you shall give him his inheritance," declares the Lord GOD.

This passage tells us that the gerim (foreigners/aliens) who reside with Israel will be given an inheritence in the Land among tribes of Israel.  There will be one flock with one Shepherd and one Law (John 10:16).

Not Since the Days of Joshua

The prophet Nehemiah recounts one Sukkot when the Israelites were returning to the Land:

All the people went away to eat, to drink, to send portions and to celebrate a great festival, because they understood the words which had been made known to them.  Then on the second day the heads of fathers' households of all the people, the priests and the Levites were gathered to Ezra the scribe that they might gain insight into the words of the law.  They found written in the law how the LORD had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month.  So they proclaimed and circulated a proclamation in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the hills, and bring olive branches and wild olive branches, myrtle branches, palm branches and branches of other leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written."  So the people went out and brought them and made booths for themselves, each on his roof, and in their courts and in the courts of the house of God, and in the square at the Water Gate and in the square at the Gate of Ephraim.  The entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in them. The sons of Israel had indeed not done so from the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day. And there was great rejoicing.

On its face this passage appears to state the that sons of Israel had not lived in booths since the days of Joshua... almost 900 years earlier, including the days of King David and King Solomon!  The Talmudic tradition of this passage is that the style or contruction of sukkot had not been the same since the time of Joshua.
